Comparison of water depth tolerance in two major wetland macrophytes, Phragmites australis and Typha angustifolia

چکیده

Two major emergent macrophytes, Phragmites australis and Typha angustifolia, show a clear zonation with respect to water depth, i.e., P. occupies shallower than T. angustifolia. However, the reasons for this interspecific difference is unclear. Therefore, study focused on features that enable angustifolia survive at greater depths australis. In both outdoor greenhouse experiments, did not deepest depth showed significantly lower biomass, nitrogen content, photosynthesis in most deep and/or aerated Differences tolerances changes responses root aeration may underlie of two species. As are very common wetlands around world, understanding causal factors determining their distributions, such as differences photosynthetic rate different depths, will be great importance managing or controlling these

Effects of Macrophytes, Phragmites Australis and Typha Angustifolia, on Nitrate Removal in High Nitrogen, Low Doc Agricultural Wetland Sediment

Data management today often consists of data placed into a spreadsheet, and may include plans to migrate the data to a relational database. We describe a more nuanced view of data management for a scientific field station that takes into account the diversity of elements that comprise an information system useful to scientists and to the public. By considering the many kinds of data processes a...

Rapid Invasion of a Great Lakes Coastal Wetland by Non-native Phragmites australis and Typha

Great Lakes coastal wetlands are subject to water level fluctuations that promote the maintenance of coastal wetlands. Point au Sauble, a Green Bay coastal wetland, was an open water lagoon as of 1999, but became entirely vegetated as Lake Michigan experienced a prolonged period of below-average water levels. Repeat visits in 2001 and 2004 documented a dramatic change in emergent wetland vegeta...

Tolerance and physiological responses of Phragmites australis to water deficit

The water stress tolerance of Phragmites australis (Cav.) Trin ex. Steud. grown in the laboratory were investigated by examining effects of different levels of imposed water deficits on growth, photosynthesis and various physiological traits related to water stress. Individual plants were grown under conditions of unrestricted water supply and compared with groups of plants receiving 60, 30, 15...

Phragmites australis + Typha latifolia Community Enhanced the Enrichment of Nitrogen and Phosphorus in the Soil of Qin Lake Wetland

Aquatic plants play an essential role and are effective in mitigating lake eutrophication by forming complex plant-soil system and retaining total nitrogen (TN) and phosphorus (TP) in soils to ultimately reduce their quantities in aquatic systems. Two main vegetation types (Phragmites australis community and P. australis + Typha latifolia community) of Qin Lake wetland were sampled in this stud...

Treatment of industrial wastewater with two-stage constructed wetlands planted with Typha latifolia and Phragmites australis.

Industrial wastewater treatment comprises several processes to fulfill the discharge permits or to enable the reuse of wastewater. For tannery wastewater, constructed wetlands (CWs) may be an interesting treatment option. Two-stage series of horizontal subsurface flow CWs with Phragmites australis (UP series) and Typha latifolia (UT series) provided high removal of organics from tannery wastewa...
